GRSP and ADB jointly awarded a grant from the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility
The GRSP and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have been jointly awarded a grant from the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility FY 2020 Call for Grant Proposals.
The proposal from GRSP/ADB was one of 9 selected among almost 50 candidatures, and it focuses on improving the accuracy and reporting rates of crash data in Bangladesh, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Papua New Guinea.
“We are pleased to be jointly awarded a new project with our member the Asian Development Bank,” said David Cliff, CEO of the GRSP. “The project is designed to improve the accuracy and reporting rates of crash data in the target countries. It will assess the barriers to correctly identifying contributing crash factors, high crash locations, vehicle, and road factors. The research outcomes are critical to understanding the drivers of road trauma and will be disseminated directly to Governments to improve the crash investigation and reporting systems through which informed countermeasure investments can be based. We are also thrilled that this new project will involve a range of our members, with implementation shared with ADB, and funding from our member the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility and UK AID. It is exactly this type of partnership approach that GRSP seeks to deliver in our efforts to reduce death and serious injuries on the worlds’ roads.”
The nine successful grants total $1.711 million and are focusing on: post-crash (13%), road safety management (29%), infrastructure safety (27%), speed management (15%), safe vehicle (5%), and road safety user safety (11%).
