In memory of David Silcock (1945 – 2024), former GRSP CEO

Back to news

GRSP wishes to acknowledge the sad passing of David Silcock, who was a former GRSP CEO and much respected member of the road safety community.

David had rich road safety experience that he brought when he first joined a GRSP project team in February 2000 and went on to become its first CEO in April 2002.  He made a real impact on improving road safety around the world and left GRSP in the Spring of 2008.  He continued his road safety work in a number of capacities, including working with the World Bank.

After leaving GRSP, David and his wife Annette moved to a small village in the Dordogne in France where he continued working.  In France, David and Annette made many new friends and enjoyed weekends in Bordeaux attending concerts and visiting art exhibitions, continuing their love of culture and classical music. They joined a choir and performed in venues mainly around the Dordogne.

They later moved to Bordeaux to be closer to health care after David was diagnosed with Parkinson and there, they made a lot of new friends and continued to enjoy their music, art and travel.

David’s wife Annette was from South Africa and after they visited there for their honeymoon, in 1996, David developed a love of the country, and they returned several times.

Annette died in 2023 of cancer and from that point David’s Parkinson’s took hold.   All three of his children travelled out repeatedly from May to be with him until he died peacefully on 27 August.

David is loved and remembered by his family who include his brother Ian and sister-in-law Sue and his niece, Sara and his great niece, Lara.  His is also loved and sadly missed by daughters Becky, Tammie and Megan and his six grandchildren Hazel, Jake, Eve, Patrick, Max and Ella.

Together we can save millions of lives.
