Inter-province workshop for ‘Safe to School – Safe to Home’ in Vietnam
On 10 April in Phu Ly City, the GRSP Vietnam team together with lead members from the Ha Nam Provincial Traffic Safety Committee (PTSC) conducted an inter-provincial training workshop on the ‘Safe to School – Safe to Home’ programme methodology.
‘Safe to School – Safe to Home’ has been developed by GRSP as a comprehensive, community-based road safety education programme encouraging all sectors to work together towards the protection of children on our roads. Overseen by the local lead authority (PTSC), the programme engages with enforcement, education and engineering sectors, as well as with children, parents and the broader school community.
Launched in Ha Nam province Vietnam in June 2013, the programme recently entered a phase of expansion with new schools launching in March, and in April, the programme was introduced to more than 30 key actors from Provincial Traffic Safety Committees and Provincial Departments of Education and Training representing 8 provinces: Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh. The representatives observed and shared the experiences of Ha Nam province to better understand the programme, its impact and ability to be replicated in their provinces and beyond.
The event was hailed as a success and we shall keep you informed as negotiations progress for further programme expansion.
‘Safe to School – Safe to Home’ is a project developed with the support of the Global Road Safety Initiative, one of the world’s largest private sector road safety collaborations, funded by Michelin, Renault, Shell, Total and Toyota.
