Road safety a theme during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in Malaysia

Back to news

The Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, called Hari Raya Aidilfitri, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims. Hari Raya literally means ‘celebration day’, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the day that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of dawn-to-sunset fasting. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is considered one of the two most important celebrations for Muslims, and is one of the biggest holidays in Malaysia.

The festival and celebrations were the perfect backdrop for the Malaysian Red Crescent to launch its first road safety campaign working in collaboration with GRSP Malaysia and the Road Safety Department of Malaysia. Datuk Wira Dr. Hj. Bahari bin Datuk Abu Mansor, Deputy Chairman, National Disaster Management, Malaysian Red Crescent officially opened the event held on 18 July at The Sungai Besi Toll Plaza.

The aim of the event was to leverage the influx of traffic around the festival and to promote the road safety message to road users in and around the busy plaza. Following the formal launch, Malaysian Red Crescent volunteers distributed road safety materials designed to reinforce the importance of basic road safety principles together with in-car first aid kits and safety vests.

This is a welcome entrance to road safety intervention work by the Malaysian Red Cross and we look forward to building on the partnership.

Together we can save millions of lives.
