World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims, November 15
As reported here recently, the 2015 Global Status Report on Road Safety has just been published and the data shows that whilst there are some positive signs, much more must be done to create a downturn in the 1.25 million people who are killed each year in road crashes.
With such confronting figures guiding our work, it is important that we never lose sight of the fact that with every number, there are many lives that have been forever changed. It was with this in mind some 20 years ago that the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims was created, and we recognize the day once more this year on November 15.
This Day of Remembrance is intended to respond to the great need of the friends and families of road crash victims for recognition of their great loss. It has also become an important tool for governments and those in the broader road safety community to highlight the enormous scale and impact of road crash death and injury, and in so doing, send out a call for immediate action.
In 2015 we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of observing the World Day internationally and the 10th anniversary of its adoption by the United Nations.
Last year the official World Day website had 35,000 visits from 188 countries and recorded 82 events from 41 countries. We encourage you to take part to make 2015 bigger still and to share the message with millions more.
