Targeting Vulnerable Road Users
Safety for pedestrians and motorcycle, e-bike and bicycle users
The GRSP Asia Seminar will focus this year on the serious issue of vulnerable road users. Right across Asia, the majority of people killed or injured in road crashes are vulnerable road users: pedestrians and motorcycle, e-bike and bicycle users. Activities at the seminar will also link with the Make Roads Safe ‘Long Short Walk’ in support of United Nations Global Road Safety Week, held this year during the week of 6-12 May promoting pedestrian safety.
The main seminar programme will be conducted over the 2nd and 3rd of April and will be followed by the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Workshop on the 4th. The seminar’s key objectives are to:
- provide capacity building opportunities to participants on good practice in road safety
- showcase research and effective road safety programmes within Asia and other regions
- stimulate support for and action in the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety
- develop networks to support information, good practice and knowledge sharing
- inform representatives on global, regional and country developments in road safety.
The GRSP Asia Seminar provides an important opportunity for networking, information sharing and capacity building. Key representatives from Asian countries will be attending the seminar, including:
- senior government officials from road safety, transport, health and police
- road safety researchers and experts
- representatives of NGOs working in road safety in the region
- business representatives with an interest in road safety.
The seminar is organised in partnership with iRAP and Philippines GRSP, and with the generous support of the Global Road Safety Initiative (GRSI) and its partners (Michelin, Renault, Shell, Total and Toyota), and the FIA Foundation.
