Congratulations to ArriveSAFE on the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award
We reported in July on the historic decision taken by the High Court in India ordering the removal of illegal liquor shops along highways in Punjab and Haryana in response to a strategic and focussed campaign waged by ArriveSAFE, a grantee of the Road Safety Grants Programme funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
In further recognition of the dedication and courage shown by ArriveSAFE in this campaign and in their continued work in reducing the number of road crashes resulting from drunk driving, they took home the top award, (shared with the Mumbai Environmental Social Network), the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2013 presented at the recent Volvo Nobel Memorial Seminar in Bangladore.
Congratulations to President Mr Harman Sidhu (pictured receiving the award) and his team! The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award was instituted in 2011 by Volvo Buses in India with the aim to recognise outstanding efforts in the broad area of sustainable mobility. The entries for the 3rd Edition of the award attracted entries from a cross section of stakeholders comprising citizen groups, consultancies, institutions and student groups. Importantly, the entries addressed multitude of problems in the area of sustainable mobility and presented solutions that were aimed at improving the quality of life for people.
