Road safety on the agenda at IFRC statutory meetings
Two pledges on road safety will be presented at the upcoming 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva.
The first is an ‘open’ pledge on road safety which will be presented for signature by National Societies and their governments. It is meant to support the implementation of UN Resolution 64/255 on Improving Global Road Safety, adopted in March 2010, and co-sponsored by more than 100 countries. This UN resolution calls for a Decade of Action for Road Safety from 2011 to 2020 (paragraph 2) and refers specifically to Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (paragraph 11) as key partners for governments in the implementation of Decade activities. Here is a link to the open pledge on the ICRC website in five languages (Arabic, English, French, Russian, Spanish).
The second is the IFRC pledge (available in five languages) that has been approved by the IFRC Senior Management Team, and will be submitted for approval by the Governing Board on 22 November for signature by the IFRC President and Secretary General.
